BMW 그룹 코리아(대표 김효준)가 인천 영종도 BMW 드라이빙 센터에서 ‘E-모빌리티 토론회’를 개최했다. 

 

이번 토론회에는 각계 전문가와 대학생들이 참석해 기후 변화와 에너지 부족 문제, 그리고 이를 해결하기 위한 미래의 이동 수단에 대한 토론을 진행했으며, 아시아에서는 한국이 최초로 개최됐다.

 

토론회가 열린 오전에는 BMW 유럽 경영 센터가 있는 연세대 학생들이 참석해 미래 한국사회를 책임지는 리더의 입장에서 E-모빌리티에 대한 진지하고 심도 있는 토론을 펼쳤다. 아울러 오후에는 관련 학계, 유관 기업 및 정부 기관 담당자들이 현실적이고 구체적인 방안에 대한 논의를 진행했다.

이번 토론회를 위해 독일 BMW 그룹 본사에서 빌 맥앤드류(Bill McAndrews) BMW 그룹 커뮤니케이션 총괄 부사장과 줄리안 베버(Dr. Julian Weber) BMW 그룹 E-모빌리티 총괄, 글랜 슈미트(Glenn Schmidt) BMW 그룹 대외정책 이사 등이 패널로 참석했다.

 

또한 국내에서는 이승훈 녹색성장위원회 위원장, 박준석 국민대 교수, 김권성 산업통상자원부 과장, 강희은 서울특별시 과장, 강연수 한국교통연구원 박사, 김기호 삼성SDI 상무 등이 패널로 참석했다.

 

한편 BMW는 이번 토론회와는 별도로 지난 2010년부터 미래 이동성과 전기차 시장에 대한 포럼을 3회 개


최했으며, 전기차 인프라 확대를 위해 관련 업계와 공동 협력을 진행하고 있다.

세계적인 상용차 제조업체인 볼보트럭은 보행자들과 자전거 이용자들의 안전을 보호하기 위한 사각지대 제로화 기술을 개발했다고 발표했다. 


이 독창적인 기술은 차량에 설치된 센서와 레이더 및 카메라를 통해 수집된 정보를 토대로 차량 주변의 모든 상황을 360도 파악해서 운전자에게 정보를 제공하고 적절한 조치를 취하게 함으로써 사고를 미연에 방지할 수 있다. 더불어, 운전자가 위험 상황에 적절히 반응을 하지 못하는 경우, 차량 스스로가 사람의 인지 기능과 흡사하게 주변의 환경을 해석하고 스티어링이나 브레이크 시스템 등을 자동으로 작동시켜 사고를 방지하는 획기적인 안전 기술이다.


볼보트럭의 연구에 따르면, 대형 트럭 사고의 주된 원인이 운전자와 보행자의 가시성이 확보되지 않아 발생하는 것으로 밝혀져, 이번 신기술은 교통사고의 원인이 되는 사각지대를 해소해 이로 인한 사고위험성을 획기적으로 줄여 주는 능동적인 안전 기술이 될 것이다


이번에 발표된 볼보트럭의 신기술은, 2010년부터 볼보트럭과 볼보자동차가 고텐버그 소재의 샬머 (Charlmers) 공과대학과 공동으로 진행 중인 ‘지능형 충돌방지 차량 (Non-Hit Car and Truck) 프로젝트’를 통해 개발되었다. 본 프로젝트는 불과 2개월 후인 2014년 12월경 마무리 될 예정이고 이 연구결과를 토대로 앞으로 5-10년 내에 바로 상용화가 가능한 독보적인 능동형 안전

시스템이 될 것이다


볼보트럭의 칼 요한 암키스트 교통 및 제품안전 총괄 본부장은 “물론, 현재 판매되는 볼보트럭도 이와 같은 위험한 사각지대를 최소화하도록 설계되었다. 

하지만, 교통체증이 심한 경우에 운전자가 미처 주변 상황을 충분히 인지하지 못할 가능성도 있기에, 볼보트럭은 이번 신기술 개발을 통해 자사가 추구하는 보다 높은 수준의 교통안전 이념에 한걸음 더 가까이 다가설 수 있을 것으로 기대된다” 라며 “현재 기술적인 요소들은 모두 개발이 완료되었으며 더욱 완벽한 시스템의 안전성 검증을 위해 철저한 테스트를 거치는 시간이 조금 더

필요하다” 라고 덧붙였다.

Munich. With the BMW i Wallbox Pro – the second home charging station in the BMW i 360º ELECTRIC portfolio for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles – zero-emission electric mobility is set to become an even more attractive option. The BMW i Wallbox Pro offers a faster charging rate than the BMW i Wallbox Pure and even more user-friendly operation, as well as innovative options for vehicle charging with home-generated electricity and smart home integration. The BMW i Wallbox Pro is available as an Original BMW i Accessory. Optionally an installation service is also provided, which offers fitting and connection of the BMW Wallbox Pro in the customer’s home or garage by qualified experts.


With a charging rate of up to 7.4 kW, the BMW i Wallbox Pro supports very fast charging of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. In this case the high-voltage battery of the BMW i3 takes less than three hours for an 80% charge. The BMW i Wallbox Pro is also compatible with other makes of vehicle equipped with the European Type 2 standard connector.


The BMW i Wallbox features the familiar BMW i design and aesthetics. The front of the high-quality plastic housing has an anthracite special-effect finish with black detailing and chrome along with highlights in BMW i blue. Reflecting the sustainable ethos of the BMW i brand, the BMW i Wallbox Pro is produced from environmentally friendly materials.


The BMW i Wallbox Pro is operated using a 7-inch colour touchscreen display, which offers optimised control and monitoring of the charging process and allows users to choose their own individual settings. The screen can show how much charge has been delivered to the vehicle so far, along with details of previous charging cycles. LED fibre-optic strips at the sides of the wallbox indicate the current charge status and are visible from a considerable distance. Information about the charging status can also be remotely accessed from a smartphone or tablet by using the BMW i Wallbox Remote app.



The BMW i Wallbox Pro provides an administrator function that can keep a charging history for different users. Up to three user profiles can be set up, e.g. for accounting or billing purposes. For example, private and business-related electricity use can be recorded separately. Details of electricity consumption for a particular user account can also be forwarded by email if desired.


A proximity sensor activates the BMW i Wallbox Pro when motion is detected. The charging plug can be picked up and connected to the vehicle socket using just one hand. Further user-friendly features include the 3.5-metre charging cable. The cable’s entry point towards the top of the wallbox protects it from contamination and makes it unnecessary to coil the cable.


The BMW i Wallbox Pro’s integrated load management system delivers the maximum available current when charging. At the same time, overloading is prevented by reducing the charging rate as necessary during peaks in household power consumption. A clear readout on the touchscreen shows how much power is being drawn from the household electrical system at any given time.

Assisted by its intelligent charging functions and the optional energy meter, the BMW i Wallbox Pro is unique among home charging stations in the extent to which home-generated electricity can be integrated in the charging process – for example electricity from a home solar system. This option is used whenever possible. The intelligently integrated wallbox detects the availability of solar power and immediately uses it for charging. If no home-generated energy is available, power from the grid is used instead.


If the BMW i Wallbox Pro is integrated with a smart home system, the efficient charging functionality can be extended even further to reduce peak loads on the household electrical system and optimise the use of home-generated electricity. Via the touchscreen it is possible, for example, to connect the wallbox to the smart home system myGEKKO. Up to eight smart home functions can then be controlled from the wallbox display, including activation of outdoor lighting. It is also possible to display a weather report on the touchscreen, showing current temperatures, daily maximum and minimum temperatures, frost warnings and forecasts for the coming days.


The BMW i Wallbox Pro is an Original BMW i Accessory and is available in all European markets. At the end of the year it will also go on sale in markets in Asia, Africa, the American continent and the Middle East. The BMW i Wallbox Pro can be installed both in closed garages and in covered outdoor areas.

Munich (DE), 1st September 2014. An intense week is underway for the BMW Motorsport Juniors. First up for Jake Hughes (GB), Jesse Krohn (FI), Alexander Mies (DE) and Moisés Soriano (ES) is a second workshop at the iZone Driver Performance Centre in Silverstone (GB). From Monday to Wednesday, they will undergo a three-part mental and simulator training course, under the guidance of renowned sports psychologist Prof. Dr. Dieter Hackfort (DE). The goal of the workshop is to delve deeper into what the Juniors learned during their first visit at the start of June.

From Silverstone, Hughes, Krohn and Mies head straight to Barcelona (ES) where, thanks to the experience they have already gained in the BMW M235i Racing at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (DE), they will have the opportunity to start at the Barcelona 24 Hours. Mies will alternate with Axel Burghardt (DE), Volker Piepmeyer (DE), Liesette Braams (NL) and Michael Bonk (DE) at the wheel of a BMW M235i Racing fielded by the Bonk Motorsport team. Mies is a familiar face to the team, having already made multiple appearances for the team in the VLN Endurance Championship.

Hughes and Krohn will share the Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M235i Racing with the two regular VLN drivers Michael Schrey (DE) and Emin Akata (DE). The team will also run a BMW Z4 GT3 in the highest A6 class, with drivers Ralf Oeverhaus (DE), Stefan Aust (DE), Peter Posavac (DE) and Jens Richter (DE) at the wheel.

The Barcelona 24 Hours will take place at the Circuit de Catalunya, which hosts the Formula One circus every year. The race starts at 12:00 this Saturday. In total, about 70 participants have registered in the various classes, including numerous BMW customer racing teams. The variety of cars in action is similar to that on the Nordschleife, ranging from GT3 cars to production-based cars.






Jake Hughes:
“I am delighted to have the chance to drive in my first 24-hour race in Barcelona. Thank you very much to BMW Motorsport and Walkenhorst Motorsport for this opportunity. I know the circuit very well, having lined up there a few times in Formula Renault. This should prove particularly helpful in the night, as I have never driven in the night before. As such, it is good to get my first experience of driving in the dark on a relatively safe and well-known Grand Prix circuit, before hopefully being able to race during the night on the Nordschleife at some point. My goal for the weekend is to drive consistently and without making any mistakes, and to gain valuable experience for the future.”

Jesse Krohn: 
“I have also driven at the Circuit de Catalunya before – never in a race, but during Formula 3 tests. I have already had the opportunity to get to know our fellow drivers at Walkenhorst Motorsport. They are very nice, and very quick. They prove that regularly in the VLN. I am grateful for the opportunity to drive with them, and am really looking forward to the weekend.”

Alexander Mies:
“I am looking forward to lining up alongside ‘old acquaintances’ at the Barcelona 24 Hours. I have known the guys at Bonk Motorsport for four years and have contested many races with them. It is nice to be able to meet up with them somewhere other than the Nordschleife. I have never driven at the Circuit de Catalunya, but have already familiarised myself with the layout. I will use the practice sessions for the rest. When I look at how short the laps are compared to the Nordschleife, I cannot help but feel that it will be very tight with about 70 cars out there. As such, you must remain completely focussed at all times.”

Munich. When the first classic Mini, made in Birmingham, went on the market on August 18th 1959, none of the people involved at the time are likely to have imagined that the concept of a revolutionary small car would turn into one of the automotive industry's most impressive success stories stretching over a period of five and half decades. 55 years ago, two models were presented to the public which differed solely in their radiator grille, hub caps and paint finishes: the Morris Mini Minor and the Austin Seven. Designer Alec Issigonis' concept was both simple and ingenious: lots of interior space combined with minimum exterior dimensions, four seats, perfect driving properties, low fuel consumption and a reasonable price. These brilliant ideas had an impact that was to extend into the 21st century.



The brand's underlying principle was confirmed once more when it was restarted with the market launch of the MINI in 2001: a superior concept gained popularity in a range of different forms and eventually became firmly established. Since then MINI has combined the classic values of the early generations with the demands of a modern automobile. Very few vehicle concepts have survived for such a long period of time or gained a comparable level of popularity - and no other concept has been applied to such a wide variety of versions as is the case with MINI.


Today the range comprises a large number of models: starting with the classic body variant of the MINI, it includes the MINI Clubman, the MINI Convertible, the MINI Coupé and the MINI Roadster, going right through to the MINI Countryman and the MINI Paceman. The brand began another fresh chapter of its success story in spring 2014 when the new MINI went on the market. An entirely new variant in the model program follows in autumn 2014 - the 

MINI 5 door.


All models share unsurpassed elegance, highly stable value retention, unbeatable handling, outstanding safety, unrivalled sporty flair, an expressive and instantly recognisable design and uncompromising quality at premium level. The combination of different qualities is as modern today as it was 55 years ago and the concept is younger than ever.


On the first weekend in August, members of the classic Mini and the new MINI community met in the county of Kent to celebrate the most successful and most popular British small car on its 55th anniversary. MINI enthusiasts were just as impressed by the new generation of the original in the premium segment of small cars as they were by some of its ancestors that were to be seen on the grounds. The vehicles on show ranged from one of the very first cars of the brand dating back to 1960 to a classic Mini Clubman Estate and a classic 25 Special Edition Mini from 1984 through to one of the last classic Minis ever built from the year 2000.


Guests of honour at the anniversary included Paddy Hopkirk, who achieved the brand's first win at the Monte Carlo Rally in a Mini Cooper S 50 years ago and Russ Swift, who demonstrated some of his unique stunts and tricks.


Fans of the brand traditionally get together at the International Mini Meeting to demonstrate their passion for the world's most famous small car. This year they designed and produced hundreds of individual stickers featuring messages and pictures. The best designs will be on show later this year at a big MINI exhibition at the BMW Museum in Munich.


The International Mini Meeting (IMM) was first held in Germany in 1978 - at that time it was a relatively small-scale three-day camping event. Its popularity increased from one year to the next, however, with fans prepared to travel further and further until the organisers finally decided to turn it into an international meet-up. The IMM takes place in a different country every year, but it returns to the UK every five years to mark the brand's anniversary in August.

Munich. Driving pleasure and sustainability are fused together in unprecedented fashion in the all-electric BMW i3 and the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car. Their high-voltage batteries can be recharged quickly and easily by means of the BMW i Wallbox that forms part of the 360° ELECTRIC portfolio. This sophisticated charging station with fast-charge facility for feeding cars with power either at home or at work underlines the all-embracing approach adopted by the BMW i brand when it comes to developing products and services for sustainable mobility of premium calibre. In the process, the BMW Group has assumed a pioneering role in this field and is therefore pressing keenly ahead with the development of innovative technologies for making driving with zero tailpipe emissions more and more attractive. Systems for inductive charging of high-voltage batteries are the next step forward for energy supply. The development objective in the medium term is to put reliable, non-wearing and user-friendly solutions for inductive charging into production that have been tailored to both the batteries in the BMW i cars and the high-voltage batteries in future plug-in hybrid models from the BMW Group.










The crucial advantage of inductive power supply over conventional charging stations is the cable-free connection between the supply point and the vehicle’s high-voltage battery. Carmakers Daimler and the BMW Group have signed an agreement on the joint development and implementation of a standardised technology for inductive charging of electric cars and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The system consists of two components: a secondary coil in the vehicle floor as well as a base plate with integral primary coil that is located underneath the car, for example on the garage floor. The arrangement of the coils, and consequently of the field pattern, is based on a design derived from their circular shape that offers a number of crucial benefits. These include the extremely compact and lightweight construction along with effective spatial confinement of the magnetic field. The electrical energy is transmitted via an alternating magnetic field generated between the coils, contact-free, without charging cables and at a charging rate of 3.6 kW. With an efficiency factor of over 90 percent, this method enables the high-voltage batteries in vehicles to be charged efficiently, conveniently and safely.


A further development target is to minimise the charging time for contactless power transmission. At a charging rate of 3.6 kilowatts, the high-voltage batteries in many plug-in hybrid vehicles can be fully charged in under three hours. It takes less than two hours to charge the BMW i8 using a fully working prototype of an inductive charging station. In order to make allowance for the higher storage capacities of high-voltage batteries in pure-electric vehicles, the future technology standard also foresees the possibility of increasing the charging rate to 7 kW. This ensures that the battery in the BMW i3 could still be fully charged overnight when using the inductive system.


Inductive charging makes life considerably easier for the driver of an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle, as there is no need to connect any cables to top up the power reserves. Once it has been correctly positioned above the primary coil, the driver can simply start the charging process at the push of a button using the vehicle’s own operating system. Data is transmitted via a WiFi connection between vehicle and charging station to help the driver even with parking.


The inductive charging facility can be used regardless of the weather conditions. Not even rain or snow has a negative effect on the power feed as all of the system’s conductive components are protected, which means the primary coil can even be installed outdoors. During charging, ambient electromagnetic radiation is also kept to an absolute minimum. The space between the primary and secondary coils is permanently monitored, allowing charging to be halted instantly if any foreign bodies are detected.


As with today’s BMW i Wallbox, the inductive power supply systems of the future will also make it possible to activate and monitor the charging process from a smartphone. The relevant smartphone app will let drivers call up the data transmitted online on the battery’s charge status, for instance, or the time remaining until charging is complete.

Today the BMW Group celebrated the opening of its first Driving Center in Asia, located in Incheon, Korea. The investment totals 75.5 million US Dollars up to 2020 (77 billion Korean won), and around100 new jobs have already been created.

 

The BMW Group has driving experience centers in both Germany and the US, however the Driving Center in Korea is the first one worldwide to combine both a driving track and a dedicated brand experience. It will open its doors to the public on 1 August, 2014.

 

At the opening ceremony, Dr. Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Sales and Marketing BMW, said: "The Driving Center is the next step in our commitment to Korea and to Asia. Korea is one of our fastest growing markets and now our ninth largest single market worldwide. We see more potential here and wish to grow even further. I am very happy that customers here now have more opportunity to fully experience our BMW and MINI brands.”

 

Concepts such as the Driving Center are part of the BMW Group’s comprehensive “Future Retail” strategy, an approach that marks a significant shift in the way that the company interacts with its customers. This program includes new, innovative and inspiring ways for customers to experience products and brands, such as city center Brand Stores and City Sales Outlets.

 

The Driving Center accommodates a 2.6 kilometer closed circuit track where drivers can experience a variety of situations, such as high speed driving, emergency and off-road techniques, using BMW and MINI vehicles. The center offers dedicated exhibits around BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad vehicles, a new Junior Campus with specially tailored science education programs on mobility and road safety for children, as well as a 12,000 m2 eco-friendly sports park. In total, the Driving Center covers 240,000 m2, the equivalent of 33 soccer fields.

 

The facilities will also serve as a new training center for sales, customer service and product training. Furthermore, a Service Center operated by Bavarian Motors, an authorized BMW and MINI dealer, offers customers a service point for minor problems. In addition, BMW and MINI owners can take advantage of the newly established “Airport Service”, where they can leave their cars for maintenance and other care programs during their travels.

As a further sign of commitment to the market, the BMW Group also announced at the ceremony that it has opened a satellite R&D Center in Korea.

Both the BMW Group and South Korea share a passion for high quality products and to be at the forefront of innovation. The R&D Center began operations at the beginning of July. It is expected to have a headcount of around 20 people by the end of 2015.

 

The benefits of the BMW Group’s extended R&D operations are threefold: the implementation of local customer requirements and market-oriented solutions, to pick up trends in innovation through improved ties with local companies, as well as technology scouting through cooperation with local technology companies, universities and institutes.

 

It is the fifth satellite R&D Center for the company worldwide, with similar centers already in operation in Japan, China, the US, and Brazil.

BMW 그룹이 세계적 권위의 ‘2014 올해의 엔진상(International Engine of the Year 2014)’에서 2개 부문을 석권했다고 30일 밝혔다.

 

2.5ℓ~3ℓ 엔진 부문 ‘올해의 엔진’에 선정된 BMW 직렬 6기통 트윈파워 터보 엔진(3.0ℓ)은 올해로 4회째 선정되었으며, 1.4ℓ~1.8ℓ 엔진 부문 ‘올해의 엔진’에 선정된 MINI 4기통 터보 엔진(1.6ℓ)은 8년 연속 수상의 영예를 안았다.

 

BMW 6시리즈와 7시리즈에 장착된 직렬 6기통 가솔린 엔진은 BMW 그룹 특허 밸브트로닉 형식의 가변 밸브 타이밍과 더블 바노스 가변 캠샤프트 제어시스템, 트윈스크롤 터보차저, 고정밀 가솔린 직분사 시스템 등의 기술이 적용되어 있다.

 

또한, 올해 출시 예정인 MINI 컨트리맨 쿠퍼S과 MINI 페이스맨 쿠퍼S에 장착되는 1.6ℓ 4기통 터보차저 엔진 역시 밸브트로닉 시스템 기반 가변밸브 제어방식의 트윈스크롤 터보차저와 가솔린 직분사 시스템이 적용되어 빠른 반응성과 탁월한 효율성을 제공한다.

 

한편, ‘올해의 엔진상’은 전 세계 34개국 82명의 자동차 전문 언론인들로 구성된 전문 심사위원들이 다양한 카테고리 내에서 가장 뛰어난 엔진을 선정했으며, BMW와 MINI는 1999년 ‘올해의 엔진상’이 시작된 이후 총 63개의 개별 부문 및 전체 부문 수상의 기록을 보유하고 있다.

배우 유인영이 폭스바겐코리아 ‘신형 골프 GTI’의 새로운 모델로 발탁됐다.


최근 유인영은 배우 소지섭과 함께 오는 5월 출시를 앞두고 있는 폭스바겐코리아 ‘신형 골프 GTI’의 모델로 발탁돼 TV CF 촬영을 마쳤으며 앞으로 브랜드를 대표하는 얼굴로 활약을 이어갈 예정이다.


이번 TV CF는 골프 GTI 광고 최초로 국내 제작된 것으로 신형 골프 GTI가 지닌 역동적인 성능과 개성을 보다 극적으로 선보이기 위해 영화적 기법이 동원됐다. 또한 감각적인 영상미를 위해 영화감독 김지운과 무술감독 정두홍이 지휘를 맡고, 배우 소지섭과 유인영이 주연을 맡아 제작됐다.

한편, 골프 GTI는 1975년 소형차로는 전례 없는 강렬한 캐릭터와 아우토반 1차선을 182km/h의 속도로 질주하는 놀라운 주행 성능으로 등장해 전세계 자동차 마니아들을 매료시켜온 고성능 해치백 모델이다. 신형 골프 GTI는 폭스바겐 그룹의 차세대 생산전략인 MBQ(Modular Transverse Matrix: 가로배치 엔진전용 모듈 매트릭스)에서 생산되는 7세대 모델로, 골프 GTI 역사상 가장 카리스마 넘치는 디자인과 성능을 갖추고 있으며 오는 5월 국내에 출시될 예정이다.
